The 105-minute Body Facial ($300) is the ultimate beach prep or just a good way to slough off skin dulled by winter. Ajune goes beyond the typical body scrub with a treatment that incorporates all the elements of a traditional facial—steaming, cleansing, and extracting. Every part of the body is attacked; heels, elbows, knees, back, and butt are exfoliated, either by microdermabrasion or a glycolic peel. Hyperpigmented skin from back acne or years of bikini-wax torture gets lighter; ingrown hairs disappear. The tingle from the glycolic and the miniature sandblast from the microdermabrasion on your kneecaps may not be the most relaxing feeling, but your skin will be so soft you’ll find yourself giddily stroking your elbows for hours.

Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
