Profile
Don't bother with Sixth Street in the East Village if you're looking for heavenly, authentic Indian food. You'll have to go a little further—Jackson Heights, Queens, to be exact. Jackson Diner (don't let the name fool you into thinking it's Greek) was a well-kept NYC secret for years, but it seems the secret has been let out. The prices have increased, but the restaurant now boasts a full bar. The food has not changed, however, and the service is still top-notch. Go for the low-priced weekday buffet or sample some naan with raita—Indian-style bread served with a cucumber and yogurt sauce for dipping. Try the tasting of appetizers and then order the lamb korma with garlic naan if you are extremely hungry. The portions are very large, and be sure to request mild—hot means hot at Jackson Diner!
