Profile
Stepping into the cozy shop from the graffiti-marked street is like peeking into the closet of the cooler sister you never had. A-line silk party dresses, military-inspired jackets or maybe a Peter Pan-collared blouse. Ballet flats and pumps are neatly paired on the wooden floor, and chunky jewelry is casually strewn about; handbags dangle from the wall. The staff—and occasionally the designers themselves—rush to assist clients who emerge from the dressing rooms to twirl in front of an oversized rectangular mirror. Best of all? Edith and Daha may stock items from top designers, but their prices don't carry a Fifth Ave. premium.

The Alterna-Sohos
While the rest of the city scurries up and down Broadway, these three micro–shopping districts remain blissfully unpicked-over.
