Profile
Natalie Vichnevsky and Dennis Weddle were separate owners of Williamsburg furniture stores Small Handsome and Motherload when the pair decided to combine Vichnevsky’s Chinese antiques collection and Weddle’s impressive vintage American finds into one choice store in 2005. The bright, orderly space is in stark contrast to Williamsburg’s many hodgepodge secondhand stores, with uncluttered aisles, rich red and blue accent walls, and an impeccable assortment of refurbished items, like a 1960s sofa reupholstered in chocolate brown leather or a newly stained antique oak dining room table. While the shop specializes in antique furniture, new pieces are also included in the mix, like made-to-order lacquer tables in shiny shades of red or duck egg blue. Beyond a colorful curtain of 16-inch taper candles, a collection of smaller décor objects accentuates the interplay between old and new, offering Chinese teacups and 1930s serving sets as well as Thomas Paul’s mod melamine dishes. Although Golden Calf’s selection (and prices) are higher-end than its neighbors, affordable finds pop up occasionally, like a vintage metal dental cabinet for $550, or a wall-spanning Canada Dry billboard.
ExtraCo-owners Natalie Vichnevsky and Dennis M. Weddle offer furniture restoration, upholstery, and interior design services from their workshop at 319 Wythe Ave.

While the rest of the city scurries up and down Broadway, these three micro–shopping districts remain blissfully unpicked-over.
