Profile
The stylish interiors of the two Oliver Peoples New York boutiques (one on Madison Avenue and one in Soho) properly complement the distinct design of their eyewear. Most frames make some slight wink to the past with a vintage-inspired touch to their shape: A three-piece rimless harkens the twenties, and pinned horn-rims and cat-eye extensions nod to the fifties. Favorites of young socialites and celebrities, the sunglasses are big, dark, and rarely under$300; classic aviators and wraparounds feature technologically advanced photochromic or polarized lenses, too. In addition to the eponymous line, both stores carry collections from masculine Paul Smith and street-conscious Mosley Tribe lines. Messengers run back and forth between stores so that customers don’t have to, and the Soho location’s lab fills prescription on-site.
SalesAnnual October sale.

The Alterna-Sohos
While the rest of the city scurries up and down Broadway, these three micro–shopping districts remain blissfully unpicked-over.
