Boom — The Sound of Silence

Involving look at gentrification in San Francisco during the tech boom, when ethnic communities were displaced, often evicted, to make way for high-rolling dot-commers. Not exactly a balanced portrait—the film clearly sides against the encroachers, and stacks the deck by offering little of their perspective. Still, a worthwhile glance at a social problem with universal resonance. (1 hr. 36 mins.; NR) — BILGE EBIRI
