Last year, a group of new mothers, led by stand-up comic Jill Shely, were sitting around at the 14th Street Y and chuckling at one another’s misery—until they came up with the idea of a daytime comedy club. Moms Cracking Up, which meets at 1:30 P.M. on the second Monday of every other month at the 14th Street Y’s theater ($15 per parent; babies free), offers yuks from professional comedians about the pitfalls of parenthood. “After her child was born, Sarah Jessica Parker said that every moment with her son is like a golden ray of sunshine. That’s clearly a mom who hasn’t spent enough time with her kid,” says Shely onstage. If that doesn’t sound funny to you, remember: On two hours of sleep, everything is hilarious.
