You would’ve thought she had bigger things to worry about, but Martha Stewart spent the off moments prior to her four-count conviction courting sketch artists and complaining to the Wall Street Journal art department. Until January, the paper’s illustration of Stewart had her looking peppy and fresh, younger even than her 62 years. But when the drawing was updated, the former-model Martha became a wrinkled, scowling, and pasty senior citizen.
She even looked bloated, and so she complained. A member of her legal team expressed displeasure at the rendering, and the paper agreed to change it.
The new drawing is hardly flattering, but she got pearls and was pleased.
It wasn’t the first time someone got upset by their illustration. As one Journal source says: “These pictures often anger the subjects who feel that they don’t look good enough or young enough.”
