Profile
Invoking the name Mozart for this charming café is appropriate for two reasons: it boasts an uncanny resemblance to a Viennese Konditorei (pastry shop), and it's just a stroll away from classical music haven Lincoln Center. In its daytime Konditorei mode, the low-ceilinged room acts as a classy, quiet refuge for patrons eager to study, chat or read complimentary newspapers while enjoying a torte or a grilled-cheese croissant. During its pre- or post-Lincoln Center evening hours, the café becomes overrun with diners hungry for a quick sugar fix. For concertgoers short on time, the menu offers one-stop shopping, with schnitzel, pricey but fresh salads and a prix-fixe dinner. But the dessert's the thing here, so you might as well skip the entrée and go straight for a slice of forest fruit tart or triple-decker cake. They eat like a meal anyway.
