Profile
The former Rocky Sullivan’s was a New York Irish legend: dark, loud, drunk, and rocking. Now anchored in Red Hook, Rocky has cleaned up his act, for better or worse. The warmly lit brick-and-wood décor gives Rocky’s a living room feel, and means scenes of Norman Rockwell tranquility are par for the course; fathers and sons together, sharing brick-oven pizzas, the family dog snoozing at their feet. The kitchen hearth is visible behind the pool table, where pizza, salads, burgers, and an extensive Sunday brunch menu are prepared. Three separate rooms, including a bar, performance space, and a spanning roof deck, means Sullivan’s will entertain many. But the grime of Rocky’s the First has been scrubbed clean. An Irish bar’s charm is the people who drink there; whoever arrives at Rocky’s now will feel instantly at home.
