Profile
Is parody an esthetic? These up-and-coming designers recycling mundane consumer goods into conversation-starting objets d’art seem to think so. Owner David Alhadeff labels it all "good new design"—kitschy knickknacks and home décor pieces that poke fun not only at the establishment but also at those who buy them. An orthodontic retainer painted gold then strung on a delicate necklace; milky ceramic antlers interlocking as a light fixture; street graffiti reproduced in needlepoint on a throw pillow… The results may have browsing Pratt students despairing at the price tags, but for those willing to back new design ideas for which function takes a back seat to form, The Future Perfect looks just like it says it does.
