Midtown's grand Biltmore Hotel may be just a black-and-white movie memory, but its portals live on. Migrating south to an imposing former speakeasy in Chelsea, the hotel's iron gates and ornate, mirrored bronze door have found a new life as the grand entrance to this glamorously formal bar. Inside, the exquisite bronze detailing continues between a gorgeous marble floor and a ceiling glittering with crystal teardrop chandeliers. Separated from the more cavernous dining room by a pair of French doors, the intimate bar and its accompanying lounge feel snug and parlorlike. Lucky customers can sink into black sofas in the lounge or slide onto to one of the stools at the black granite bar. Once situated, they can spice up the evening with a plate of Thai marinated chicken and one of the Biltmore’s signature cocktails—the Way of the Dragon contains orange vodka, lime juice, and cayenne pepper—or a smoky single malt from the extensive collection. The only thing missing is a veil of cigar smoke.
Extra
The Biltmore Room has its very own cell-phone booth. Built in the shell of an old dumb waiter, the luxurious leather-tufted capsule ensures complete privacy for you and an undisturbed drinking session for everyone else.
