   A cloistered garden, appealing wine list, and Swiss-inflected menu distinguish this West Chelsea newcomer.

2. 2. The Farm on Adderley

   Like many a Brooklyn restaurant before it, this one has a fresh-from-the-farm motif, a leafy garden, and, on occasion, Alan Harding (spotted moonlighting there one recent Sunday night) in the kitchen.

3. 3. Enoteca Barbone

   186 Ave. B, nr. 11th St.; 212-254-6047

   The streets of Alphabet City may be loud and chaotic; the gardens, happily, are not, which means one can eat one’s spaghetti carbonara and drink one’s quartino in relative peace.

4. 4. The Good Fork

   391 Van Brunt St., nr. Coffey St., Red Hook, Brooklyn; 718-643-6636

   Everything feels made from scratch in this homey Red Hook spot, from chef Sohui Kim’s juicy pork dumplings to the seating areas, both inside and out, courtesy of Kim’s carpenter-actor husband.

5. 5. Pies-N-Thighs

   351 Kent Ave., at S. 5th St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn; 347-282-6005

   What fried chicken, pulled pork, and fruit pie doesn’t taste better outside? This “yard” might not be landscaped, but it’s got personality.
