An order of five fried dumplings at a restaurant is usually about $4, not including delivery. A bag of 50 from New Kam Man Food (200 Canal St., at Mulberry St.; 212-571-0330), on the other hand, is $9.95, or less than $1 per tasty meal. The dumplings come stuffed with shrimp or pork (or chicken for $1 more), all equally savory. Boil in a pot till they float, drain well, then follow with a quick browning in hot oil to get some crunch. Dip in soy and vinegar, or Sriracha for added kick. Use the extra $3 on a couple of cold Buds.
