There are a lot of MP3-player transmitters on the market, but the new iTrip Universal from Griffin is not only one of the most affordable, it might just pay for itself. FM transmitters, as you know if you've ever used one, plug into your MP3 player and then broadcast your music to an unused frequency on any FM radio (in your car, a rental car, or even your home stereo). The only problem is, they usually come with bulky power adapters that plug into a car's cigarette lighter, or they eat batteries like they're going out of style (which, actually, they are!), making them alarmingly expensive to use, even for relatively short road trips. The teeny, ecoconscious iTrip Universal has built-in lithium-ion batteries that recharge through its hidden USB plug (it's under a pop-off cap). And unlike a lot of other such transmitters, which only work with iPods, the iTrip Universal will work any MP3 player that has a headphone jack.
