Expect to spend about an hour with Miska trying different updos during the bridal consultation ($100). Each hairdresser charges a flat rate of $1,000 for the entire wedding day, plus $150 a head. For a serene environment in which to be made up, brides can rent this tiny but elegant salon which has an outdoor patio (from $3,000).

Borja Color Studio

Clients head to this midtown shop for a pre-wedding color overhaul that looks truly natural. Cuts are $125; single-process color, $100; highlights, $175 to $275. Borja’s colorists also make house calls (price upon request).

A Bridal Hair & Makeup Salon by Marina Vance NYC

1429 Sixth Ave., nr. 59th St.; 212-570-6500; marinavance.com

Vance does hair and makeup for the bride and two others for $3,000, and assigns a team of his trained stylists to the rest of the bridal party. (With any other stylist in the salon, it’s $175 for makeup and $175 for hair.)

Blow

It’s blowout only at this scissorless hair salon. Wedding-day ’dos start at $125, and the Bubbles ’n’ Blow package enlivens a party’s blowout sessions with flutes of prosecco (starting at $60).<

Bumble and Bumble

Stephanie Braun and Travis Speck are the stylists to see for bridal updos at Bumble and Bumble—they are especially adept at quick changes and performing under pressure after years of backstage work during fashion week. Trial runs start at $150; wedding updos start at $300.

Cutler Salon

Rodney Cutler’s low-key salons—a favorite for highlights—deliver unpretentious (but never boring) styles. They offer a bridal package ($400), which includes a shampoo, blow-dry, styling, and makeup application. A consultation is included; a trial run is $200.

Cutting Image Salon

While you get made up in this cozy salon, the French café next door will provide the wine and cheese—complimentary, of course. Bridal updos run from $150 to $250. Bridal makeup is $100. Parties of up to nine can rent the entire salon by the hour, and bridal party packages start at $100 per bridesmaid for wash, blowout, and updo—plus $50 for makeup.

Devachan Salon & Departure Lounge

For best results, these curly-hair specialists cut locks while they’re still dry. The staff prides itself on teaching its clientele how to respect their manes with a daily regimen of Devachan’s detergent-free “No-Poo” products. Cuts start at $95. They also specialize in working curly hair into sophisticated updos, but can also style all types of hair. For bridal styles, prices upon request.

Dov Salon

Dov’s signature is custom, undetectable hairpieces that make both updos and down ’dos look incredibly full. Consultations start at $250; day-of appointments start at $500; hairpiece prices vary.

Eva Scrivo Salon

From Eva Scrivo’s new, larger salon location, brides can start with a trial and consultation (recommended at least three months before the wedding) that includes hair and makeup for each client (hair, $150 to $400; makeup, $150). The cost for the day-of appointment in the salon is $150 to $400 for hair, $200 for makeup. For Eva herself, prices upon request.

Frédéric Fekkai

Clients who visit the Fekkai salon at Henri Bendel come away with soft and understated hairstyles. A consultation and styling will run about $150. For a pre-wedding spa treatment package, the Provence Escapade is a great value including a Beauté de Provence facial and massage, haircut, style, manicure, and makeup ($325 per person).

Garren New York

The wedding stylists at Garren are known for their versatility, but for brides who want a classic, traditional style Jason Quinn creates simple, yet elegant updos. For an edgier, retro ’do or for those considering extensions, Manabu Unno is the one to see. A consultation is $100-$250; on-site styling is $300 and up.

Gil Ferrer Salon

At this salon—known for stylish cuts and high-tech treatments—brides can get an updo (from $250), makeup (from $150), and bring their bridesmaids to sip wine and get made up, too (bridesmaids’ hair, from $85; makeup, from $75). Free consultations

Hiro Haraguchi Salon

This salon is tastefully understated and simple. Bridal updos start at $200, makeup applications are $200, and the salon can be rented for “glamour” parties (price upon request). Penny James is the bridal stylist; for great color, ask for Zane.

John Barrett Salon

Clients check in to this bright salon for classic updos (from $250) and expertly applied makeup (from $250). For $500 per hour, a stylist will come to the wedding. Consultation is included.

The John Sahag Workshop

Stylists continue the late Sahag’s work, specializing in clip-on hairpieces as an alternative to hair-damaging extensions. Prices start at $350 for the bride (trial runs are $200) and updos for the bridesmaids and others start at $175.
