Florists Directory

Antony Todd

260 W. 36th St., nr. Eighth Ave., eighth fl.; 212-367-7363; antonytodd.com

Designer Antony Todd makes elaborate but modern arrangements. His résumé—which includes Martha Stewart Weddings editor Darcy Miller’s nuptials and the Byzantine Ball for Save Venice—should give a sense of the league he’s in. Prices upon request.

Ariella Chezar Floral Design

413-528-3285; ariellaflowers.com

A veteran of California wine-country weddings, Chezar eschews tight arrangements for ones that look happened-upon, teeming with citrus fruit and rare vines. Many of her materials are FedExed here by West Coast “foragers,” though she supplements such finds with unique plants from her own garden and will dig into her collection of antique silver vases to display arrangements. Prices start at $350.

Ariston Florist

110 W. 17th St., nr. Sixth Ave.; 212-929-4226; aristonflorist.com

Since owner Thomas Barbagianis opened his shop in 1975, he’s been re-creating the memories of his childhood garden near Delphi, Greece. Think big, fat bouquets with attention to seasonal colorings, such as mango- and burgundy-colored calla lilies in the fall, and for winter: amaryllis (in shades of deep red, white and pink), ranunculus, and tulips, all wrapped in tea leaves. Prices run $75 to $300.

Artfool

161 Allen St., nr. Rivington St.; 212-253-2737; artfool.com

This East Village design duo covers all the bases: Jack Myers does graphic design and film work (anything from table cards to Websites), while Matthew Robbins handles the floral arrangements and general décor. Expect bold colors and contrasts (hot-pink anemone with orange poppy), often with textural elements like berries, seed pods, and olive branches as central components. Centerpieces from $200; bouquets from $250.

Avidov Adler Studio

117 Grattan St., nr. Porter Ave., Ste. 320; 718-785-5958; avidovadlerstudio.com

The famed avant-garde designer has engineered everything from intimate, 50-guest affairs to massive blowouts for 500. The common link: an obsession for detail and an artist’s talent for making tiny aspects of an event rise above the mundane. Prices upon request.

Banchet Flowers

809 Washington St., nr. Gansevoort St.; 212-989-1088; banchetflowers.com

This shop buys directly from designer Banchet Jaigla’s sister in Holland. Unflinchingly contemporary and architectural, the designs never lose the natural quality of simply being flowers. Bouquets from $275 to $325; centerpieces from $265.

Barbara's Flowers

2522 Frederick Douglas Blvd., nr. 134th St.; 212-234-3211; harlemflowers.com

Favored among the banking set, this mother-daughter team has also done parties for MoMA and the Studio Museum. Owner TaraSimone Powell fondly recalls crafting envelope clutch bags with floral buckles at one wedding because the bridesmaid’s dresses were “just too fabulous for an ordinary bouquet.” Prices start at $125.

Bardin Palomo

2 E. 55th St., nr. Fifth Ave.; 212-521-8088; bardinpalomo.com

Robert Bardin and Robert Palomo started their visual events-planning company fifteen years ago; today they do complete interiors for high-end parties. Their impressive, creative portfolio—classic designs with a modern twist—has earned them the prestigious post of in-house event designers for the Saint Regis Hotel. Prices upon request.

Belle Fleur

134 Fifth Ave., nr. 19th St.; 212-254-8703; bellefleurny.com

Couples flock to this mom-and-daughter shop for eye-catching, upscale designs at moderate prices. The monochromatic, lush arrangements here have a contemporary feel. These days, Belle Fleur mix Eastern and Western styles by juxtaposing orchids with peonies or adding tropical leaves to traditional bouquets. Centerpieces are $150 to $500; bouquets start at $175.

Bill Kocis Important Flowers

1116 Country Courthouse Rd., Garden City Park, N.Y.; 917-751-5543; billkocis.com

A favorite, with celebrity clients like Kim Cattrall and Woody Allen, this boutique florist focuses on details like faux-gem accents and glittered rose tips. For a recent wedding, Kocis created a fresh, dewy environment by suspending green orchids and wheatgrass spheres from a clear-acrylic overhead platform that supported 1,000 candles. Prices for bridal bouquets start at $200.

Bloom

541 Lexington Ave., at 50th St.; 212-832-8094; bloomflowers.com

Couples are bowled over by owner Kimberly Perrone’s modern yet elegant combinations of traditional and exotic flowers. Bloom’s arrangements are in demand all around town (the W Hotel is a regular client). Bridal bouquets start at $200; centerpieces start at $275.

Butik

605 Hudson St., nr. W. 12th St.; 212-367-8014; butiknyc.com

Before opening this quirky store, Leif Sigersen had a budding floral business in Denmark. His penchant for rich blossoms like black roses continues to thrive here in this Danish-inspired shop. He and partner Helena Christensen have crammed Butik with knickknacks (antiques, Christmas ornaments) beyond the normal floral variety. Prices upon request.
