I needed a bikini that was functional (as in, I could swim in it) yet cute (for poolside lounging). Normally I avoid white swimsuits, since I think they’ll make me look both washed out and like I’m trying (unsuccessfully) to be a Bond heroine. But after I tested a few different makes and models during a trip to Bora-Bora, this white bandeau style from Malia Mills won my love. One day in the sun gave me enough tan to look more Greek than ghostly. The suit is lined, so there was no discomfiting sheerness. The top was the snuggest, most secure bandeau I’ve ever worn (the cinching string at the center front can be tied around the neck for added security). The bottom had the perfect amount of coverage: high-cut side to elongate the leg, but full enough in back that I didn’t feel weird wearing it in front of my parents. Best performance: The suit didn’t budge when, during a snorkeling session, a few sharks showed up and I suddenly had to swim away very, very quickly. A bikini that stays put and looks good even during frantic-swimmer mode? Done deal.
