Woolworth Building
Date: Built between 1910 and 1913.

Architect: Cass Gilbert.

Woolworth Building in History: F.W. Woolworth commissioned his company headquarters in order to reap the PR benefits of having the world's tallest building. He paid cash for the building's construction.

Woolworth Building Today: The sixty-story, neo-Gothic masterpiece continues to get high marks from architecture critics although the idea that it could have once been the tallest structure on earth seems quaint today.

Address: 233 Broadway
