Best of New York Beauty 2004

Best Hair Salon for Curls

  • Josephine Beauty Retreat

    200 East 62nd Street, 212-223-7157

Steven Rice, a stylist at Josephine, gives curls that range from Sarah Jessica–esque to softer and more natural—think Angelina at the Oscars. Rice’s talent has won him popularity with supermodels Heidi Klum and Josie Maran and magazine editors (he’s done shoots for Allure and InStyle). For a tight, structured look, he adds silicon and crimps the entire head. For a softer wave, he uses a heat processor and a large-barrel curling iron. From $60.
