We can’t imagine the woman who wouldn’t adore something at Ted Muehling’s Soho shop, in which found natural objects mingle with elegant, somewhat organic-looking baubles. Muehling’s work has nothing to do with carat-counting: It’s about a streamlined aesthetic and sublime stones. Settings range from small drops (from $100) to clusters of turquoise beads ($500) or an intricately wrought brooch studded with tiny diamonds and pearls ($3,800)—which means there’s something you can afford and something more to dream about. Which is exactly how a jewelry shop should be.
Best Small Jewelry Shop

Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
