Public

This young restaurant in the heart of Nolita, featuring a “free-spirited fusion” menu, can host sit-down receptions for 100 to 125. Public can also be the site of the ceremony, with 25-step staircases, a lounge–cum–dressing room, and a picture window looking onto the Elizabeth Street Garden. Receptions range from $25,000 to $30,000.

The Puck Building

This landmark Soho building boasts more than 14,000 square feet of event space. The high-ceilinged Grand Ballroom is vast—it can hold 1,000 guests—with white walls and columns, two chandeliers, and white curtains that can be parted to yield an incredible amount of natural light. The seventh-floor Skylight Ballroom seats up to 250 guests. Both are available year-round starting at $255 per guest. Take note: The Grand Ballroom will undergo a major renovation starting in January; it’s set to reopen in May 2009.

Pure Food and Wine

This trendy restaurant, with decadent health food, has a calm backyard and a garden deck that’s perfect for small weddings. The food—organic, vegan, and raw—is prepared to perfection, and even the tap water is purified through a high-end filtration system. Prices start at $65 per person.

The Rainbow Room

The famed local institution offers six private rooms, all decorated in the restaurant’s signature Art Deco style. The space accommodates 20 to 400 people for dinner, and the food is provided by local fixture Cipriani. The views of Central Park and the Empire State Building are spectacular. Prices upon request.

River Café

Couples can enjoy the bohemian romance of Brooklyn without sacrificing a glorious city backdrop. The Terrace Room at the River Café is festooned in abundant greenery, boasts a water-stream entrance, and opens up to an expansive view of the East River and Manhattan’s skyline. The intimate room can hold 100 guests (80 with a dance floor). Prices vary.

The River Room

With its sleek interior and panoramic views of the Hudson River (thanks to a floor-to-ceiling glass wall), the River Room is known for its upscale southern comfort fare (macaroni-and-cheese croquettes, shrimp ’n’ grits with red gravy). The restaurant can accommodate up to 250 guests and offers valet parking. Prices start at $75 per person.

The Russian Tea Room

Catering director Wendy Gordon oversees arrangements at this renovated historic midtown venue. Choose one of three private rooms—each holds from 20 to 350 people—exquisitely decked in colored glass or intricate woodwork. Prices upon request.

632 on Hudson

This giant space was an abandoned sausage factory when the owners took over in 1992, transforming it into a mini-mansion decorated with eclectic Asian and Italian antiques. The ceremony usually takes place either in the rooftop garden or on the first floor in the atrium, with the bride descending the spiral staircase for a romantic entrance. Prices range from $7,000 to $9,000 for full-day rentals.

Studio 7

Located atop a turn-of-the-century factory building in downtown Manhattan (between Soho, Tribeca, and Chinatown), the 4,200 square-foot former sweatshop is part shabby-chic (distressed walls, tin ceilings), part polished loft, with 30 windows, two skylights, and refinished hardwood floors. Prices upon request.

Tavern on the Green

Many couples looking to plan an old-fashioned fairy-tale wedding choose this sprawling, fanciful space on the western edge of Central Park, surrounded by topiary animals and trees with twinkling white lights. The Tavern accommodates up to 1,400 guests; prices start at $110 per person.

Tobacco Warehouse in Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park

This nineteenth-century warehouse on the Brooklyn waterfront has 20,000 square feet of roofless space, ideal for a dramatic outdoor wedding. The warehouse also offers a 7,200-square-foot tented area that accommodates 350 to 400 for dinner, rain or shine, with magnificent views of the Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. The rental fee starts at $4,500, plus a $25 permit fee.

Top of the Rock

Given the name, some might assume that this new event space is cheesy, but it’s not (think 25-foot ceilings, two private terraces, and a stunning Swarovski crystal installation). A more affordable option is the seventh floor 620 Loft and Gardens, with an outdoor reflection pool overlooking Saint Patrick’s. Catering by Cipriani; prices upon request.

Top of the Times

This fifteenth-floor room has warm, terra-cotta tile flooring, a 4,350-foot canopied terrace, and a number of gardens. It’s located in a city-assisted housing zone, but wary couples should note that there’s an elevator to whisk guests directly to the reception. Fees start at $1,600.

Tribeca Rooftop

One of the most popular wedding sites in Manhattan, this bright, indoor-outdoor event space usually books a year in advance. The 15,000-square-foot, skylight-lit penthouse, with striking views of the Hudson River and the Empire State Building, seats up to 360 guests. Prices, which include open bar and seated or buffet dinner, a wedding cake, and décor, are about $175 to $240 per person.

Twenty Four Fifth

The former Fifth Avenue Hotel recently reopened with David Rockwell–designed topiaries in the floor-to-ceiling windows. Etched silver-leaf mirrors set off the cream-colored walls, and chandeliers light the sunken marble dance floor. Just steps from Washington Square (and with spectacular views of Fifth Avenue), the building can accommodate up to 400 for cocktails or 200 for dinner; customized menus cost $195 per person.
